He impersonated the voices of the people upstairs and had them attack the poor sick man and humiliate and insult him an torment him emotionally.
The man was subjected to cruel treatment, satan made him think they could read his mind and were looking at his thoughts and calling him a pedophile even though he was innnocent of this, they would call him a pedophile when he was thinking something good even, and it would imply, that they were going to kill him.
